Today in history: December 26, 1893 - Chinese communist leader Mao Zedong’s birthday. Mao Zedong is one of the most important leaders in the history of the International Communist Movement, making important contributions to the practice and theory of Marxism-Leninism. With Mao’s leadership the Chinese Communist Party led a protracted people’s war to victorious revolution in the most populous country in the world. After victory in 1949, Mao continued to play a leadership role in the CCP through the process of socialist construction, while developing the theory and practice of combating revisionism. Mao became a world-wide symbol of anti-imperialism and proletarian revolution, inspiring people to become Marxist-Leninists around the world, including in the U.S. His practice and theory continue to be studied by revolutionaries around the world.
